- LIFE is simply a journey & an experience; it begins and ends with zero & has NO purpose as designed by God; the best you could achieve is be happy & IF each one of us is happy then the whole world is a happy place; but given free-will, also by God, our mind can’t rest with such a simple goal; hence we have created the world as it is today, for ourselves.
winning in Las Vegas
thinking that you can defy the known odds in your favor is one of biggest fallacies that is inherent in humans.
40+ million people visit Las Vegas each year (the numbers have been growing each year) & lose money in gambling even though the fact is that none of these guys win in Vegas during three consecutive visits .. only a few lucky ones gain some in any single trip; two trips at best you get break-even … & rarely anyone would take home as net positive in any visit … despite this fact, people keep on returning with a hope that luck will be on their side this time … but if you lose money for the sole purpose of entertainment, that’s another story – but don’t forget to look in dictionary (or google now-a-days) to find out what would they call such a person ..!
& to share a rare success story, Daniel Negreanu – a celebrity in poker world – came to Vegas five times with a bankroll of $3,000 & returned home (Toronto) empty handed, before turning it into a big success but he is kind of once in a decade occurrence.
beating the Stock Market
by investing regularly in stock market over a long period (10+ years) one can make a decent return … & interestingly, you don’t have to do anything … simply setup a direct transfer of a fixed % of your salary on a monthly basis and you will be fine over a long-term
however, since God has given us a creative mind, and the mind is simply not happy with a fixed boring return and hence wants to manage the money actively by trading in stocks & other assets with a goal to beat the market …
i am not sure how many people know or don’t know that the number of people who have beaten the market in the world is in two digits (Warren Buffett & Charlie Munger being on the top of the list) – out of 10+ Billion people counting those who have died in last 100 years or so ( a number that goes in 10 digits) … you do the math of calculating the odds of joining this elite group – who have beaten the stock market over long period …
you can argue that one has to try to find out whether you will be successful or not and i would agree with you … but please know that each of these people have practiced on the market between 10 – 25 years & given up their lives to the market before they became successful .. & where i see the biggest fallacy in humans is they want to be successful in trading like “tomorrow” … when they have no clue about it.
till death do us part .. & then shit happens
in most cultures, marriage is defined as till death do us part .. which simply means that there is no exit clause … then why do courts allow a no cause divorce … the only case to dissolve a marriage would be if one of the partner turns out or becomes a criminal, and in that case, the legal authorities will put him/her away anyway ..
i am not saying that people should not marry or not take divorce and stay in an unhealthy marriage, but why take unconditional vows, rather we should say …
we are marrying with conditions that any one of us can leave the union with our without notice, if we change our mind at any point in future … how does this sound as a vow taken together .. crazy, huh … but isn’t that reality ..?
& that would be a perfect vow in my opinion, so there is only limited expectations for each party.
i find it funny that even though all couples commit to something like till death do us part in their vows, followed by, i do .. i do, but i am in hurry to kiss you ...
which you can see from the expression of bride and groom and the rest of the audience in the room … when everyone knows, especially the “experienced” people sitting in the room, that it means Nada in your mind as well as the court of law … or you haven’t had time to think about it, since you are in hurry .. but every couple takes those vows despite knowing the facts as well as the odds ..!
in summary, divorce / splitting is a reality, & what you do at the altar is simply a fantasy ..!
finally, its all in the data .. IF Bill & Melinda (Rich & Smart) couldn’t hold it; Jeff & Mackenzie couldn’t hold it; Brett Pit & Angeline (Rich, Smart & Handsome) couldn’t hold it … Elon Musk couldn’t hold it (Rich, Smart & Handsome) … of course, when Rich Men have their own quirks .. then who am i to prove the data wrong ..! but you could argue & quote Bill & Hillary, Donald and Melania, but you don’t need me to tell you the secrets .. its all public information ..!
